Sick Pea Chick Died - Going to Vet School For Necropsy - Will Post Results

Sorry for the late update. I had to clean up her area. Her poo is green again. Will post pics tomorrow. She is eating and drinking on her own and walking and flying around. We mixed 32oz of water to 1.25 ml of Corid. I gave her 5 ml of the mixture. I also mixed some of the medicated mixture in her crumble and fed her. She is resting now. Her weight tonight was 2.52 lbs.

I hope I gave her enough. I needed everyone over here to help me. Will give another update in the morning. Thanks again everyone.

I hope you have a peaceful night and baby chick has a perfectly solid poo waiting for you in the morning!

UPDATE
DAY #5 -

Well, I got home and the Corid was waiting on me.

It seems like it took us forever to read and re-read the instructions as well as referring back to all of the great information that was provided here. As we were reading, she was walking around and flying around AND she actually ate. (see pic below). I was shocked and happy to see that she was still eating on her own. I weighed her and her weight was 2.54 lbs last night.

We finally mixed the Corid with water and gave her a dose down her throat (5ml). I fed her again. I looked at her poo from yesterday's elimination and it was watery with a lime color. :( Here is a pic.

After feeding her, I put her down and she walked back in the laundry room and went to sleep.

I woke up this morning and she was up. It looked like she may have eaten and drank some of the Corid mixture. I fed her and dosed her with 15 ml of the Corid mixture. I also gave her her liquid vitamins. She poo-ed a couple of times and it looked better but still watery. :/

Pic taken after she ate.

After I fed her, she walked back in the laundry room and rested.

Not sure what else to do. It's just a waiting game.

I really don't think you're dealing with coccidiosis, I think it's histomoniasis (blackhead). All along I have been thinking that her symptoms, including her poop, look just like Red's did. The graph shows his decline and recovery, but what it doesn't say is that he was treated for histomoniasis (blackhead). He was treated with metronidazole liquid suspension (50mg/ml) at the rate of 60mg/kg once a day for five days. He was also dewormed with Safeguard at the rate of .5ccs/kg.

I really hope that I'm wrong and that it is coccidiosis. Here is a link about histomoniasis for you too look at.

Is your Avian vet back in the office today? Please do try to talk to a vet about histomoniasis vs. coccidiosis. Have you thought about asking someone in the either the BYC turkey or emergency forum to comment on this thread?

Who is Red? Is that one of your bird's? Where is the graph?

I have a headache. :th :(

I have a call in to the vet. He was with a patient but will be calling me back. I also called the other vet that gives me the meds that I need when I call is closed. They won't re-open until tomorrow. I will pick up some metronidazole to be on the safe side.

I will post more when the avian vet calls back. I may also have to call the LSU Vet School Avian Department for help. :(
