My peafowl is about 4 months old. Came from an excellent breeder and has been healthy. The past 3 days she wont eat much and very lethargic. Yellow liquidy stool. Now she is having a hard time breathing. I treated with safeguard (tho I only did 1/4 tab cuz shes not full grown) and corrid. Ive been force feeding egg/yogurt/gatorade but I dont know how much of that slurry she should get in a day. Shes getting progressively worse and I dont know what to do. Please help - she is just the sweetest bird Ive ever met!

Histomoniasis = protozoan disease an urgent problem!
Ivermecting = effective against many types of parasites ... not urgent ... good for next week!

You need dimetridazole or nitroimidazole poder mix in water make drink with a syringe.

Thank you very much! Sounds like those are in the metronidazole family - can I use metronidazole? Does anyone know the doseage? Im also going to start Ivermectin IM at 0.037 for 4-5 days and Ive been treating with Corrid. Anyone aware of any contraindicatians? I have oxytetracycline inj (LA-200), would it help to do a course of ABs?

Metronidazole dosage is 250mg per day for a grown bird, reduce for smaller sized birds. Given for five days orally. It is also an antibiotic that kills protozoans which is what Black Head is.

Metronidazole is what most people in the US use to treat blackhead.

Metronidazole dose is 14-23 mg per pound of body weight once a day orally, not in water. I use the large dose.

If you can, I suggest finding a vet that and see if you can get some Baytril because if it's blackhead, there is a very good chance that there is a secondary E. coli infection, for which you will need an antibiotic like Baytril.
