SICK PEAHEN

@GLPEAFOWL , if the swelling is hard, pretty sure no amount of antibiotics are gonna fix it and surgery needs to be done.

Question for the group; the swelling started last weekend, he said it was not hard under the swelling. I had a turkey that looked this bad last year and I gave the Tylan shot directly into the sinus and it worked wonderfully. I have never done that to a pea, is that an option?
I have seen references to using tylosin in the sinus cavity of peafowl but have not done i myself.

Thought I should mention that my experience with sinus infections is limited to two... one was a hen at the feedstore, her's required surgery, and the other was one of my 2014 chicks, his was was a soft swelling and got better after three shots of Baytril.

@GLPEAFOWL , what Baytril are you using (10% or 2.27%), how much have you been giving and what is the expiration date on the bottle?

The bottom pic of her right side was taken Wednesday evening! I'll get another pic of her this afternoon and post it today! Everyone should also know that I'm new to peafowl ownership so I'm not sure that I'm comfortable performing "surgery" on my own bird. I'm not sure my guts could handle it either unless it's not THAT intense. I appreciate all the info so far, keep it coming!!

I'll also check this afternoon if the place on her eye/head is hard or soft.....honestly, I haven't checked for that! I was asked if she has been wormed, and the answer is YES. She was wormed in early fall!
I wouldn't feel comfortable with it either if I had to do it. Do you have any friends who might be willing to help or have a friend that is a vet or a doctor? Like others have said you have to wait for the mass to harden before trying any surgery.

Maybe @connerhills will comment. Here is a link from his website:

I was thinking about that page on Connerhills site as well. Very helpful article. Notice that the peacock is in a paper sack and the sack is taped up to keep him in there good. That is a good idea so that the bird isn't wiggling all around.

This article also talks about swelling but doesn't show pictures of a removal of the mass in the face because it sounds like he just treated it without cutting it out so that could work: http://www.hopkinslivestock.com/Swelling of the Eye Sinuses.htm
The article also mentions that this can be caused from a lot of dust so if you can try putting leaves or something on the pen floor to keep dust down.

Ok everyone! I took a couple of pics an hour ago & they are below! As you can see in the one close up, there is a somewhat clear puss oozing from her! I pressed on the knot & it's not rock hard, but it's not real soft either! I'd say somewhere in the middle but closer to hard! The harder I pushed, the more oozed out. Thoughts??

You could try taking an 18 gauge needle, make a hole and try to squeeze more out. Does any fluid leak from her nostril when you do it?

I can't see her eyelid so, no, I haven't tried opening it! And I didn't look to see if any mucas (or whatever it is) came from her nostril, but I'll check when I get back home this evening!

I think this is the opening to her eye. You need to put a warm compress on it any see if you can get it open maybe then the goo will come out.
