This week I lost all my 11 chickens to some strange disease. It was heartbreaking watching them die one by one.
Now my pigeon flock as come down with a sickness... and one looks like it will die... and I can't stand to have them all die as well....
1. They are shaking their heads a lot...but not sneezing. Some have a small area of dirty feathers above their beaks.
2. At night they stomp and peck at their feet and legs.
I found some small 1mm grey mites on their legs at night.
I have cleaned out the coop. Dusted EVERYTHING with a powder for DOGS that says it kills and repels ticks, mites, and lice. But they are still getting attacked at night.
NOW HERE IS THE PROBLEM. I live in Thailand. It is VERY difficult to locate ANY avian medication.. even in shops selling vet products.. had the staff simply tell me they don't stock anything for birds at all... zero!!
The vets in my area... I tried 5 of them.... all but one refused to treat birds. I tried to get ivermectin for my chickens... but once the vet knew I was going to use it on birds he refused to sell me any!! The one who tried to help me had no idea and just gave me vitamins and some general antibiotic tablet (which was difficult to get the birds to take.. and did no good).
I have located de worming powder. I de wormed the chickens and pigeons. I got some coccidiosis medication.. which I also treated the chickens with.. but they still all died. I also got ivermectin injectable for cattle 1.5%.
I cant tell you how frustrating this all is. Even the de wormer did not list what chemical it was anywhere on the packet... and the tick powder for dog I used on the birds coop does not say what chemical that is either!!!! I wanted to use on the actual birds.. but fear it might not be safe.
So I have the ivermectin 1.5% (again why its 1.5 instead of the normal 1% is crazy)
I want to dose my sick pigeons with it. I have done days of pointless research on the net about dosage and how to use it... I know it won't dissolve in water. I can't put it on the birds skin like spot on. I have to drop it down their throats. But NOWHERE does it say what dose to give!
I feel like crying!
Can anyone tell me how many drops of injectable ivermectin 1.5 % I have to give to each bird (or how many ml)?
I want to use the drops.. so the mites die when they suck the pigeons blood. Also I read that mites can live in the birds nostrils.. which might be causing the sneezing.

PS. The birds are in a large, clean, well ventilated coop. They get fed 2 X a day, with no feed laying about to get pooped in. The get fresh water daily with apple cider vinegar added. They get chicken grit, and crushed oyster shell also.. and a bath 3 times a week. No wild birds can get into the coop.. and they are not free flown.. as I am moving house soon and want to home them to new place. I have had them about 6 months.
