My Polish rooster hasn’t crowed in a couple of days I walked out back, and found him sitting like this. He is pretty lethargic and not interested in eating. I have seen him drink. He is also staying away from the hens. I was able to pick him up, and he feels a little light to me. I can also feel his breast bone fairly easily. I have given him a dose of Corid and am treating everyone’s water. Any ideas of what could be wrong?

Do you have another rooster that picks on this guy? Id he in the general population and is he picked on by the hens?

Have you checked his crop? Checked his butt feathers for lice? Has he been fed any over ripe fruit or vegetables that could have been a little moldy?

No other roosters. Don’t think the girls are picking on him. He has not been fed any fruits or veggies, just their normal all flock feed. I have not checked his butt yet. I was able to get a hold of him to give him Corid, and he fought me over that.

Update:
I have him set up in the laundry room in a dog crate. Poultry cell in the water and he has access to food. I didn’t see any mites or lice, and his butt looks okay. His crop appears empty. Gave him a dose of Vetrx and a tiny bit of Safeguard, in case it’s worms.

It's perfectly safe to give a worming med along with a coccidiostat, but for either one to work, it has to be given according to the instructions. A "little" bit is the same as nothing.

Mix the Corid in the water that all the chickens drink. It's two teaspoons to one gallon of water for five days, wait a week and do another five-days.

Safeguard is usually given for three to five days two weeks apart.

Thank you. I know the dosage for both, and I guess I should have clarified when I said “a little bit”. No one has bloody stool, so I am treating their water (and him separately) just as a precaution, just in case it happens to be coccidia.
