when I came from work today (about 4 pm) this pullet had an inflamed left leg and was limping. She was not noticeably limping this morning Or last night or any time yesterday or the previous days but apparently by mid morning my roommate noticed that she was spending more time "resting" than the others.

When I picked her up the leg joint was hot and her leg ("drumstick") was full of this crusty and pus leaking skin and the skin was and is hard to the touch.

I ran it under cold water until the pus softened, (for like and hour), cleaned the dead skin off as best I could with a toothbrush, trimmed her leg and feetvfeathers so hopefully the area can dry, and coated it all w vegetable oil.

She's in a sick chicken cage in the living room w food n water for the night She is a 5 month old FBCM pullet.

This is her like 3 days ago when I had them in the basement to avoid all the hot weather.

Any ideas what is happening? She's the only pullet from my first hatch so ima little bit attached.

She was eating and drinking this morning and this fternoon when I came home but she might be stressed out in the crate in the house, hasn't eaten or drank water.

Her poop seems pretty normal, not quite solid, seems to have fibers in it as if from dry grass.

Is taking her to a vet an option?
Her leg looks very very swollen.

Hopefully the vet fixes her up nicely for you tomorrow.
Please keep us updated.
Try to get some rest. :hugs

Does it look like an injury that has become infected or possibly a tumor? Was she with other chickens? If it is infection, soaking her leg in warm water and chlorhexidene, betadine, or Epsom salts. Apply plain Neosporin Ointment after each soak. Please let us know what the vet has to say.

vet thought i was a mareks related tumor. :-( i can't bring myself to cull her yet - soaked the leg with epsom salts, applied blukote and gave her an injection of tylan 50, will do for 5 days and see if she gets better or worse. isolated from the rest of the flock and i'm wondering whether or not to vaccinate the 14 week olds and 6 week olds. any advice?

Definitely vaccinate them, Marek's disease is like herpes (I know weird right) its a virus that sticks to them and is prone in Bantams specially sebrights and silkies I pray for ur Lil girl I hope she gets better, make sure she doesn't suffer though. I'm sorry again for ur sick Lil girl.

Give her some vanilla yogurt it has antioxidents and good vitamins for her to feel stronger

If she has Marek's there isn't much you can do..she is either going to survive or not, I am sorry, but she has already exposed the rest of your flock to it.
She may have already had a compromised immune system so that may be why she is showing the symptoms first.
