Sick pullet.

I just wanted to add that I noticed some of my chicks "sneezing" when I took them out of the brooder. I was concerned at first, but then I noticed that whenever I took them out of their warm brooder into a cooler climate (I like to take them out in the back and let them run around on occasion), that they did that sneezing thing, but were otherwise fine. Just keep an eye on her and please don't give her a bunch of medication unless her condition worsens. I think oftentimes people want to rush and give medications that are unnecessary to treat illnesses that are non-existant. Just wait a couple days , keep her warm, and see how she does.

I had a chick that was listless and seemed tired. I was told it was parasites, Marek's disease etc. I started freaking out because I thought she would die. I ended up simply giving her diluted electrolytes in water with a dropper, and she recovered within 24 hours and is happy and healthy. I am glad I didn't give her harsh medications because they would have been unnecessary!

For the most part I too agree with this, but if there's a chance that something is brought into 'your' environment through a chicken that is showing symptoms of sickness and the proper biosecurities were not taken, I think an antibiotic is the lesser of the evils at this point. Electrolytes and vitamins, I am totally behind and use myself along with ACV and a bunch of other "good" things to keep my birds healthy. Everyone must make their own choices when it comes to their own.

In your case, yes I've seen it happen and have been there myself but in the end I do have Marek's in my flock and all the secondary little nasties that they can and will get. I have had to learn to be proactive in the care of my flock as I do not want to cull them all because they have this disease. I am glad this was not the same with you and your flock. That is an awesome thing! I know though if I thought for one second, that my flock had been exposed to MG or Coryza, I would want to treat and ask questions later as these two are reportable and deadly. Just my 2 cents and that's the beauty of BYC....we can all have an idea and express it.

Well I noticed all 3 of the pullets I got are wheezing, sneezing, and coughing. So we are taking them back tomorrow. I hope my own flock isn't sick q.q I'll just keep an eye on them.

Please? Please keep this thread up to date and let everyone know how everything turns out. so many times a thread just stops and there is no resolution to be seen. I hate mysteries, lol! I am into happy endings myself and want so much to see one here.

Well they are all sick. but I got the duramycin-10 for all of them. But I have a question, would the infection ever go away or will they have it forever? o.o

If this is MG or Coryza, yes they will have it forever. They will not always be symptomatic but they will carry it. These 2 can be passed through the eggs as well but from what I've read on the MG at least, the eggs usually fail to develope when incubated. It's a hard way to learn about biosecurity isn't it? I learned hard myself so I know where you're coming from. If you haven't had deaths yet, this is a good sign. You may have caught it early enough that it will be a very mild outbreak. These birds can go on and live a good life, laying eggs and doing chicken stuff. They can become symptomatic if they are stressed by cold or whatever and you will find yourself having to treat them with antibiotics again. Providing some heat for them in the winter, if your Winters are as cold as mine, will go a long way in keeping them safe from an outbreak. Something else you should think about, Revival Health has Oxine. I have been told over and over what a miricle this stuff can be. Save your pennies and watch for a sale there. A little goes a long way and this stuff can be added to their water, put into a spray bottle and sprayed directly onto the birds. Read up on the Oxine and check out Revival.

What other respiratory infections are there? o.o

Check this link. In doing so it will probably scare the pants off of you, lol. The problem with diagnosing chickens is that so many of these have a lot of the same symptoms. I had a Vet tell me once that he wouldn't see poultry as he wouldn't know what he was looking at. Sad but true, lol. The best advice I can offer is learn all you can about each one and go from there. If you start to have deaths in your flock, you might want to think about a necropsy. You can contact your state Vet to get information about that and also any diseases prevelant in your area. Usually the necropsies done through the state lab are relatively cheap and worth looking into. It may be the only way to get a definative answer in the end.

What would be the best treatment that I can get easily? Would Duramycin-10 help or should I try to find a way to get Tylan?
