sick quail babies? violent head jerking, unstable, running into walls

Well, Lets hope for the paranoia!!! I know I can talk myself into think'in they have some strain of quail Ebola virus. The next day it turns out there are just be'in the weird little quail I'v come to love...BTW, A little paranoia is a good thing. Bill

haha - Isn't THAT the truth, just like when they were 'sunbathing' and I thought they were dead.

And Thanks, I would rather be slightly paranoid than reckless.

Last night, I banded Frittata and Quiche and gave them until my lunch break today to get acclimated to the bands. At my lunch break they seemed happy again (last night they were stomping around all angry and like I tied an anchor to them!!) so I put them back in with the others. Its been week since this thread started, 5 days since I last saw an episode, and I am pretty hopeful that they have recovered. Fingers are crossed that the others will not show any symptoms when I get home and that they accept the 2 back, we will see!! I banded Frittata on the left leg and Quiche on the right, that way if either starts showing symptoms again I'll know which one.

Oh and yes, I name them for the food they will provide for me

I hope that is alright

AHH I almost forgot - their chest feathers are coming in now (2.5 weeks) and they started purring/odd noise last night!! Nothing like a real Hen or Roo noise, but definitely different than their chick peeps. I'm hoping to be able to sex them by feathers soon, I'm afraid to assume now in case I am verrry wrong but it looks like I have 5 hens. whooo, pretty good for 8 eggs.

Congratulations! Yes, I observed the purring first, then the male started almost a croaking or deeper grrr sound. The females chirp and later they make cricket or frog sounds. And the roo call, well.....it has been described to me as first sounding like a Klingon.

I really enjoy the female noises. Now I can understand if they were indeed kept for their noises in addition to the eggs.

Enjoy!
