Sick Rooster- Any ideas? ~ Update!

Good... I'd also start weighing him daily on a digital kitchen or postal scale. Any weight loss is not good.

That's a good idea. I gave him some water with electrolytes through a syringe, and spoon fed him a mash of chicken feed and water, just in case he hasn't eaten or drank.

So on Friday, the roster went to the vet. He gave me eye drops and baytril, which has helped out the rooster a lot. He's moving around, his tail is up, he's eating, and best of all, crowing! But, some of the hens are starting to get sick, so I'm also giving them the medication. I brought 3 inside who were the worst and I separated the others. I'm gonna see if the vet can give me more eye drops and baytril in case I run out. Oh, and the vet also took a swab from the roosters throat and we took it to a lab for it to be tested, just gotta wait for the results.

Thanks for all your help!

That's great news! You can buy generic 10% Baytril without a prescription for cheap, just do a search for enfloxil. If you look hard enough you can find brand name, but it's way more expensive.

Do let us know what the lab work shows.

TSC won't sell baytril--it is a prescription drug--you can find it without a prescription online from fish stores, but Tylan Soluble Powder would work on your other chickens, and they may sell it there. It works to treat mycoplasma G which may be what you have going on there. Gallimycin and oxytetracycline also will treat it.

Thank you! I'll probably just get it from the vet, since I need more eye drops anyway. I'll keep those websites in mind for the future though :)

You're welcome... vets here charge way too much for it, so I prefer to buy it online, lol.
