Sick Rooster. Please Help!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
I'm running out the door now to get some de-wormer.
Thanks for these responses. It means a lot to me!

PS I'll keep you posted

If you can't find the other product get Bagbalm for his legs - does wonders for leg mites. And if you can't find that, some folks use vaseline. I much prefer Bagbalm - it is very healing.

Bolster his nutrition immediately by giving him 3 drops Polyvisol liquid children's vitamins daily - administer gently along his beak line with dropper, so he swallows on his own and doesn't choke. The stuff tastes like crud so follow with something yummy like a couple of cut up blueberries if you can coax him to take them from your hand.

See if he will eat live mealworms - sometimes when nothing else works they work. And you can also try baby parrot hand feeding formula. He's in big big trouble and needs some nutrition right away to get through this.

It's crucial when he's this weak to give him reasons to hold on. If he has a favorite feather-friend put that friend in with him for at least some of the time.

Please keep us posted.

Hi Everyone,

Well Al the rooster seems to be doing a slight bit better but I think it's too early to tell.
He's had his first dose of de-wormer, Wazine, a couple of hours ago.
I've tried to hydrate him but he doesn't want to drink so I've had to inject a mix of Pydialyte and apple cider vinegar orally.

He has plenty of snacks (watermelon, corn, bread, and dried mealworms) in addition to his normal feed. Enough to make any bird happy but so far he has not eaten.

Thanks for all the help and if anyone has more info please feel free to share.

I'll give an update tomorrow.

Thanks again,
Dave

Get the vitamins in him as noted above so he has the fundamentals working for him and get live mealworms and try to coax him with those.
Hope things will get better soon.

Hi All,
We lost our rooster Al this morning. So very sad. He was a good bird.
I just wanted to thank everyone for their help. It's nice to know there are people out there that will take the time to give advice to a stranger.
A speedy recovery to all chickens!

RIP Al (Alexander)

Very sad.

Hopefully those reading your thread will watch their birds all the more carefully for any signs of illness.
In most cases, these things take time to get bad enough to die.and can be caught in time....
Nutrition/vitamins crucial first step to give them the strength to hold on.
RIP Alexander
