I have an Americauna rooster, Merlin, who is under a year old. A few days ago I noticed he and one of my hens had what appeared to be vent gleet. I have treated both with an epsom molasses water, probiotics, electrolytes and yeast cream, plus a spray of Verteracyn daily. The hen seems to be fully recovered, active and no more poopy butt. Merlin was slower to respond so I put him in sick bay for a couple of days and he seemed to be better so I let him rejoin the flock. Today he has poopy butt and is just standing - also occasionally he looks as though he is about to crow or poop, but just strains, making a high pitched noise as he strains.

I am putting him in a wire kennel so I can better monitor his condition, food and water consumption and will probably put a heat lamp on him.

Anyone have any adivce for me? Or know what it could be if it's not vent gleet?

Sorry to hear he's not well.

Can you take some photos of him, his vent and his poop?
Did he have a yeasty discharge or was his bottom poopy?
How many days of treatment have you given him?
Is his crop empty completely in the morning before he's had anything to eat/drink?
What type of food/treats do you feed?
Can you take a sample of poop in to your vet for testing of worms and coccidiosis?

If he's straining to poop, then I would see that he's drinking really well. Whatever you can get him to drink - a little sugar water, diluted gatorade/poultry electrolytes, etc.
Once he's drinking well, then offer a wet mash made of his food (feed+water, make a bit soupy). If you feel he's constipated, then you can give him 1 teaspoon of coconut or mineral oil to see if that helps.

Where are you located in the world? You mention you may provide heat for him - how cold is it and will he have enough space to move completely out of the heat if he gets too hot (is he alert/mobile enough to be able to move to a cooler place)?
