Sick rooster

Favus,a fungal infection, can cause a chaulky white film on combs, wattles, and ears. It can be confirmed with a skin scraping, or you can apply some antifungal cream such as miconazole or clotrimazole daily with a glove. I found this atypical picture below of frostbite online, so I would still look at frostbite as a possibility. High humidity and poor air circulation, and getting a comb wet in freezing weather are likely causes of frostbite.

I would cancel your vaccine order if possible.

I tried to cancel but it already shipped out. Should I give it to them or will that create more problems than good for them?

I live in Ohio and fowl pox is not a problem here, even though it is hot and humid in late summer. I had 2 hens once with a single pox scab apiece. In the deep south and tropical areas, pox is very common, and some cases are serious. But the vaccine needs to be given correctly, and I would leave it up to you to decide whether or not to use it. It has to be used within an hour after mixing it I think, but have never used it.

The white stuff wasn’t as bad. I’m not sure what he has. But I hope is not contagious. And about a vet my kids already think I’m crazy
Well, you could get the antifungal cream—if you have a Dollar Tree, they sell clotrimazole for a dollar—and apply it. Or watch it to see if it heals, as a scrape from fencing or a mild case of frostbite would eventually do in a few weeks. Let us know what happens.

I think I’ll save the vaccine in the fridge for now. I’ll probably won’t give it to them. I watched videos on how to give it and I’ll do it only if I really have to. Thanks for all your help
