We just had a pretty cold night 2 nights ago it was in the single digits but when I went and fed his flock yesterday he was going perfectly fine then when I went out this morning I found him laying on the ground and I picked him up and his wattles were swollen and he can’t hold his head up he’s been laying down all day long but I got him to drink some water earlier when he tried to eat he started acting like he was chocking but I haven’t seen any drainage or foam coming out of his eyes or nostrils. Is it freezing where you live? That could be frostbite on the wattles. Other possibilities could be fowl cholera or coryza. Spider bites or an insect sting may cause severe sudden swelling also. Can you tell us what the eyes look like, and if there is any foam or drainage from the eyes or the nostrils?
If you suspect frostbite, do not rub or massage the wattles or any other frostbitten area.
I live in Eastern KentuckyWhere do you live?
