Sickly duck at local produce store...

Hey guys! I'm sorry I haven't checked up on this forum lately! You are all so amazing for the ideas and the help! :) I haven't yet been back to the store to check as yet, as my report was submitted only a few days ago and the report needs to be processed and then an investigation to commence, in addition to being stretched thin with so many complaints that come in.

For legal reasons, I can't/won't be kept updated on the progress of the investigation. As far as the RSPCA is concerned - my involvement with this case is pretty much over. I may be able to call with my reference number to see if they have seen an animal welfare matter, but I won't be able to know much more about it, I'm not allowed to know details since I have no ownership of any of the animals involved. But I was intending on visiting again about mid-week, to give the RSPCA time to launch an investigation and also for the store to clean up their act. If there has been no improvement by then, I will be going around to various groups online and doing my best to make this go viral and I will be naming the store. By the way, yes, I did include all of the photos I took with my report. There was about five of them.

I would like some input from a poultry/farm veterinarian though - so as to have a 'legitimate' stance, or at least be able to say I have someone's qualified opinion. I don't know of any around here though, I think there's one about two hours away so I'll try to hunt them down and e-mail them the photos I took. Otherwise - is anyone on this board a known (and practicing) poultry/farm veterinarian or an aviarian?

You can look up avianvets on Google. Hopefully you can find some within calling distance.hopefully they will be willing to consult with you instead of insisting on seeing the animal in person for a "small" fee. That's the problem I've run into, most vets aren't willing to even talk to you until you have the money in their office.

BTW, you are definitely going above and beyond for this duck. For that I am so grateful.

Update! WE BOUGHT THE DUCK!!!

Well, I didn't - my partner did. I got him to go in today while I waited in the car.

I bought a multi-vitamin/minerals concoction but we haven't given it yet - we just gave it a bowl of water deep enough for it to dunk its head in and...well, I have never seen a duck do a double take before! I'm reluctant to anthropomorphise it, but...in all honesty - it DOES look really, really happy. In the entire time that I've had my eye on this duck, I've NEVER seen it half as active as it is right now. We got it a small tub of water to clean itself in, the water ended up filthy in less than five minutes, but the duck was quite happily repeatedly dunking its whole body in. It's so, so much more active already - it would barely even stand at the store. And making the most adorable little noises.

The room does smell like wet dog now though...

*jumps for joy*
Hurray!!!
I would get those vitamins and probiotics into her as soon as possible! Have any of her feathers grown back since the last time you saw her? I hope there is nothing too serious going on with him/her. How is she looking now that she's had a bath? Does she make any noises when she breathes to indicate that she has a respiratory infection or sinus infection? Will you take it to the vet just in case?
Sorry I don't mean to overwhelm you, I am just SO happy! WHAT A LUCKY DUCKY!

Miss Lydia is right that doggie smell will leave. I think of it as the neglect washing away. So proud of you both!!! And happy for the little.
