*sigh* ANOTHER massacre story

Came home and my wolf and beagle-mutt were missing. Yelled and the mutt came running up from the creek. Was freaking out cuz last time the wolf got loose one of the neighbors shot him and my pit. Pit didn't make it, wolf was just winged.
Anyway, so busy heading back up the driveway to look for him didn't notice how quiet it was. No quacking, no crowing, just the goats. Came back down and saw him inside the duck pen. 5 ducks killed, one missing and all of my remaining chickens. I'm pretty sure the other duck got eaten.
SO now all I have left is Lucky, the brain damaged one that survived the last slaughter. She is living in the goat pen, cuz the others were picking on her and she couldn't fend for herself.
*sigh* maybe I am just nOT meant to have chickens.......

Your just having a run of bad luck moon, hang in there. sorry for your losses.

Sorry that happened.

I guess when you have dogs (wolf) you just have to be extra careful. I have a poodle mix and i am even careful with him around my girls.

That's why those 2 are penned, instead of in the yard with the underground fence. But they managed to tilt the bottom corner of the gate out and squeeze through the corner. I have a fence post that I use to prevent that, but apparently the rain we've been having loosened where it digs into the dirt just enough. GRRRR!

I am extremely sorry too. It is especially hard when your chickens are killed by another pet. I know, I have been there.

Geeze...I have a chicken killer too and it's awful. My dogs can't get into my pens, so it only happens when a chicken gets out, but unfortunately that;s been way too many times.
Best of luck, and I'd see those dogs didn't eat atleast for a couple days....but that's just me.

sorry for your lose. I have felt the same way just wanted to give up but i just love have birds they make me happy. so take a short breather and get right back into it.

Well right now, I am totally wrapped up in opening the new business office for my boss. I haven't had a day off for 3 weeks! But it's coming together and I am working on the website too.
SO if anyone wants to get married in E. Tennessee check it out!

site is still under construction and rough but the basics are there.

I will probably wait till next Spring to get chicks again. I know I won't have the time this summer for them and don't want to deal with half grown birds in the house during the cold weather, so I'll wait till maybe March again. I will definately go with Cackle Hatchery and probably get the mixed batch with the ducks and geese. I had fun trying to figure out what my "10 assorted rare breed chicks" were.
But now I will have more time to spend with my horse now that I got her moved where I can ride her and work with her.
AND.... I still have my Lucky Chickie that survived the first massacre. I had been keeping her in the goat pen cuz the other chickens picked on her when I tried to put her back in the coop and she still has balance issues when she tries to move fast. I think she has double vision too. It's interesting to watch her attack her food and water. She eyeballs it and then lunges at it like she's afraid it will run away! (maybe it looks like it's moving to her)
Maybe I will try to talk ,y boss into letting me have the pair of banty Cochins at the stables......
