<sigh> Freeloaders

Here's you a picture you can hang in their coop!

I think we are about out of this "egg depression". I have been getting four eggs a day for the last month out of 92+- hens. I got 11 yesterday!!!

I hope it will balloon up from this point.

Reduce the treats! Especially birdseed. Layena is barely enough protein and I bet you're diluting it too much.
If they won't eat their pellets, lock em in the coop with nothing but Layena and water and they'll eat it when they get hungry enough.

I agree, whenever we over treat our hens they stop laying. They can still have the high protein treats (a few crickets and mealworms), but cut out the seeds and extra greens for awhile. Water, protein, calcium=eggs.

Good luck!

Now that pic. of chicken is funny. I printed it out to put on the enclosure.

I am trying to be hopeful. I am adopting (!) cochin banty hens tomorrow that are active layers. If they stop when they come to my house, I will have to increase my medication. Don't tell me that there is something wrong with me...I KNOW that. Maybe these girls will get jealous that I will praise the new ones and go for one ups-chic-ship?

BTW...they are Americauna's, at least 5 months old. I think. If not older.

I'm gonna go have some Tequila.

I'm getting 6 eggs a day from 15 ducks, which isn't too bad of a ratio given the vast differences in their ages - from adolescents to 18+ months. Not a single darn egg from the chickens - EEs and Rhodies.

OK...so now I have 12 banty hens and 2 matching roosters and one "sarge" who keeps an eye on everyone (he doesn't mate for some reason). Got them yesterday and they are starting to relax but BOY...are those freeloaders upset. They rush the car when I drive up, clamoring for attention and hoping they aren't heading for freezer camp.
Question is: ANY EGGS YET??
Nope.
Any cottage cheese today?
Nope. Got salad leftovers instead, which they didn't finish.
Let's see if the little snots notice my attentions are elsewhere on an ongoing basis. Maybe they'll get the message.

My sad story: we bought 4 cute little chicks last May
fl.gif
and one turned into a giant "food eating" machine and also grew into a ROOSTER
rant.gif

So now I have one roo and 3 pullets. At six months, I get one egg every day or two from 1 layer and the other 3 just eat and hang out

Today, we cooked up 4 eggs for breakfast and now we have zero eggs

I don't want to eat dirty eggs from the store, so I will just wait a few days until I have enough eggs for another meal

I can't wait until the day when I see two eggs in the nest boxes

, but who knows when that will be
