I was shocked! For the past 600 years, the papacy has been a till-death-do-us-part profession and no one has resigned. But, seeing as it is the hardest job on earth and Papa Bene is getting old, he is completely within his rights to go and live peacefully in a monastery, writing books. As for his successor, I know that we have some amaaaaaaazing cardinals in the US (Dolan and Burke come to mind- EPIC!) but I'd like to see a Cardinal from a third-world country take the Holy See. I'm sorry, Tani, but I'm skeptical. I was practically raised under the altar (I'm a preacher's kid, remember?) and I think that unification of any faith "from top to bottom" would be nothing short of a miracle!

On a completely different note - poor Critter just took a real shot to the ol' ego. I don't know what it was that he bought, but when he looked at his receipt, he realized that the cashier had automatically given him the "Senior Citizens Discount". He said, "it's bad enough when they stop carding you, but this?"
