When I visited relatives in Titusville as a child, I remember being firmly told not to go outside barefoot because of the risk of hookworms, parasites that could enter your body through the soles of your feet. Bizarre the things you remember from your childhood, huh?

Yep, same here... even though I've been told by the doctors to wear shoes so that the bones in my feet and ankles are stabilized. Shoes are just weird. We should all just be like hobbits.

I have crocs.

Ugly as hell, but more comfortable than flip-flops with their weird toe things.
