Mentioning hitting close to home, it's happened again - lightning struck a pine tree in our yard this afternoon. This particular tree is right at the end of a chicken pen; in fact, it appears that the bolt traveled the last 4 feet to the ground through the fence wire. I dunno - the chickens may be laying scrambled eggs for the next few days, but they seem unscathed. Can't say the same for the tree, and dang it, I think this may have been the largest tree we had left.
