Yes, teaching some old dog a new trick can be enjoyable. If the old dog is willing and eager to please. I have taught several new tricks to an old dog or two in my life. Dogs may get old, but they usually retain their eagerness to please. That makes them easy to train, and they are always grateful for the attention.

It's that willingness to learn and eagerness to please that makes teaching enjoyable, though. The frustration of trying to teach something to a stubborn pup that insists on doing things their way can take all the joy out of it. What's that they say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result being the definition of insanity? I don't know if that's true, but trying to get a behavior "unlearned" can sure drive you crazy!

What a week. I posted this on a couple of other threads. Now I'm back a bit more, can post. My mentally handicapped sister lives in a home for the kind of disabilities she has. They took some residents to a lake..a lake! ?? She drowned. They revived her..to breathing a bit until the medics came. When I got to the hospital, she was inti bated. Nothing from her. She was just there. The dr. gave us a lot of different scenarios as to how she could wake up . . or not. Well she did! She is now talking, walking a little. She has a short term memory thing going on. She will go to a rehab center for therapy once she is out of the hospital. Loved the nursed that took care of her in the ICU! So thankful to the Lord that we still have our Lisa with us!

Yes indeed, Wisher, as in many things the journey is frequently more significant than reaching the destination. 

Ah yes! And the most frequent journey that we take is to the .... Uh ........ ...... Uh....... uh..........

However, Alaskan finds that "tricks" really aren't the best thing for this activity. Quality accuracy, that is what counts! Ah, and ventilation, that is good too!
