We're expecting our own lab to go into heat soon, she's a co-owned dog, and the other owner has the right to one litter out of her, which she will be using now. We might have to go the AI route with this coupling too, because our girl is very small (20kg) and the male she intends to use is quite big (40kg). I've given Karin permission to let Kiusa give birth at home, and the puppies can stay for one week but then the gang gets to move to the other persons home. I'm not much of a puppy person. I like grown (house broken) dogs better.
There isn't really a weight restriction in the Finnish standard, but he is pretty big. I wouldn't say oversized though. And I'm just approximating his size, I haven't seen him in a while. He might just be a bit over 35 kilos. But still, a lot bigger than our Kiusa. And also, a lot smaller then some labs I've seen. Some people keep them on free feed and let them blow up into 50 kilos balls, that's horrible. We like to keep our dogs lean, although they could use some fattening for the winter now.
