I've had this tune running through my head all day, so this seemed an appropriate place to post it:

It's funny; though I've heard that it's been voted by the fans as their #1 favorite Eagles tune, for a long time after I first heard it, I found the images it conjured up deeply disturbing. Apparently I wasn't the only one; I've heard that there were some pretty strange things written about it over the years (demon worship, etc). Co-writer Don Henley is quoted as saying it isn't about anything like that at all, it's really just about the journey from innocence to experience. That line "you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave" isn't about getting trapped in some terrifying, surreal "Twilight Zone" episode, its about how, once you have learned or experienced something, at some level it will always be a part of you. He went on to muse that sometimes, the American Dream can turn into the American nightmare. . . . .

Do you reckon he's ever met a candiru?

Or Harvey?

Nope, Nope, NOPE!!!!

Not buying it, not buying it at all. It is deeply disturbing, some pretty strange things about it, (demon worship, etc) about getting trapped in some terrifying, surreal "Twilight Zone" episode, with a killer guitar solo at the end. I love it! Official song of this equally disturbing kingdom we live in.

*sigh* Pinocchio, you really ought to stand back a bit farther when you say things like that, you know.

. . . . and you wonder how the Princess knows you aren't telling the truth.
