Sigh, I'm rehoming my dog tomorrow, how does this sound?

Best of luck rehoming him. Been there done that, it sucks every time.

Depending on where he is going I might insist he be castrated, or do that before he goes.....

Aw sweety.. .

I'm sorry you're having to do it. I hope the future owners keep in constant contact with you! Maybe at a later day you'll be able to follow your dream, maybe even with his blood in the lines!

I'm a Newfie person, too... many breeders have the stipulation about contacting them first if the adoptive owner or purchaser can't keep the dog - but they also put in a clause about a large fee if the dog is found to have been sold or given away without prior notification. I'm not sure how enforceable it is, but as part of a signed contract, it should be binding.

Another option (may be too late if you've already agreed to give the dog to someone), is Newfie rescue. They have a very inclusive contract, they do home visits and have quite a thorough application process. Prospective adopters must have their application approved before they can even attempt to adopt a dog. Breed rescues are wonderful at finding forever homes for the dogs in their care. If it was my dog, I'd be lots more comfortable about the dog's long term future if Newfie rescue had checked out the dog's new home and approved it... If this is an option for you, go to the AKC website, go to the Newfoundland page, and click on breed rescue for contact info.

Good Luck to your dog!

In order for that contract to be legally binding it mUST be noterized, please make sure you do not miss that step other wise its just a piece of paper and will not hold up in court if necessary.

Thanks.

I have no contract with the breeder of this dog.

I had thought about Newfie rescue, but they wanted me to pay $400 to put him into it and I just don't have that kind of money sitting around without a purpose...

I did rescue work for MANY years and thoroughly screened people for him, vet refs, home check, etc.
I wasn't just letting him go to anyone.

They are due to come out in an hour... I'm so nervous.

I wish you lived closer or I had my passports sooner I would have taken him.... I miss my big girl

I hope it goes well. I had to rehome a chow-chow because he just needed more room to run. It ripped me apart inside even though I knew in my heart it was going to be better and safer (he kept getting out of the fenced in yard). He now lives with a wonderful family that has acreage and is very happy. Good Luck.

Well he is gone. They are super nice people, have a farm and animals for him to watch over just like he had here but more TIME for him alone than I had. My time is divided amoung 3 kids and 60 other animals and he was a very one on one type of dog. A big baby who wasn't happy having to compete with other dogs for affection.
They only have one other dog, a very elderly pug who mainly lived inside. I think all around it will be a great match.

Awe...Jenna...I know you've had a rough year. I applaud you for doing right by your boy. I'm sure he's going to an excellent home. Hope things get better for you.
