Wel, I lost a few to neighbors dogs, but this is the first time any of my girls have taken ill and died.
I thought at first she was going broody ( I have another one thats gone broody on me). But then I noticed her comb was a purple color. After a warm soak in the sink to clean off a poopybutt, I didnt notice anything unusua.lShe ate a little bit yesterday, and walked around a bit. Today, she wouldn't walk. Her butt was poopy again, so she got another soak, and I noticed the vent was swollen. She had not eaten today, and hardly ate yesterday.I tried to squirt liquid on the corner of her beak, and she didn't swallow. She got 3 long soaks in warm water. I tried massaging, but was afraid to break the egg. I even tried squirting KY into her vent (and boy, thats like an enema .. phewwy)
With her last soak, I had some hopes she would pass the egg. Her vent looked like the egg was getting real close....
But then she really went downhill fast. I had her in a dog crate in the dark laundry room, and she slept for a while.. but then, I went in to check her, and she lifted her head, looked at me.. I thought it was a good sign. I walked 4 steps away to get water to try to get her to drink... and that quickly, she folded her head underneath her, closed her eyes... and that was it...
