I think one of my girls has just started laying. She is laying in the hay at the bottom of the coop and I have found two eggs, one yesterday covered with poop and today one that had a very thing shell, it looked like it it had been painted and the paint had started to bubble off. What is that all about?

Will she start going into the nesting box? I put a small milk crate on the bottom of the coop with hay in it, and a plastic dummy egg, but still laying in the hay.

Thin eggs are normal for a pullet that has just started laying. Make sure you are giving oyster shell for calcium though.

I had good luck putting 3 fake eggs clustered together. It took my BO a week to figure out to lay in the boxes, but she got there.

Thanks for your advice.

She might like the bedding where she is laying better... Try putting some of the bedding she's been sitting on in with the hay. And if you don't have any dummy eggs, a golf ball or ping pong ball will work, too
