This is a load of crap....no pun intended. Go down to the park and see the mess they make, crap everywhere on the sidewalk and street. There used to be several wild species of ducks there; I havent seen them in a year. Everyone signing that petition should put their money where their mouth is, and go adopt one. Im sick and tired of do-gooders who do nothing more than run their mouths. If you're so against it, go do something about it. I bet not one of those signers could even FIND Tuscawilla Park, much less have even seen the mess these ducks make.

Good idea, but make those signing the petition pay for shipping too, since most that are signing are just signing to save the animals, and are many miles away.

Thanks to the internet one person in a area can post a link and say they got 10,000 SIGNATURES from people that dont want this to happen in reality probably the person that originated the petition isnt even from the area, just someone with one of the duck rescues that has nothing better to do, than start up petitions.

Case in point first 5 SIGNATURES:

# 5:May 11, 2009, Carolyn Barnes, New York
# 4:May 11, 2009, Sophia Papadohatzaki, Greece
# 3:May 11, 2009, Anonymous, Germany
# 2:May 11, 2009, Gail Freel, New Mexico
# 1:May 11, 2009, Jennifer Singer, Canada

What happened to Must be resident/over 18 for your vote to count. This is just a site set up just to do petitions, probably the powers that be will never get to see(or care to see) this petition. 2 weeks, and only 435 Signatures

Ship everyone who signed the petition one live muscovy!!

Awesome! Problem solved.

Now can you head over to DC and take care of the deficit?

They are a wild species, native to South and Central America. Like every non-native species that has been set loose and allowed to reproduce they take up the "space " of a native species. I agree it's sad they need to be killed, but what is the alternative? Allow them to continue to reproduce without any controls? they have not been here since 1492.

I disagree there is no way to tell at this point just what areas might have been native to these birds as a wild species. It wasn't 1492, but the first Spanish explorers in Flordia did report that Native Americans had domestic ducks and from the description they had to be muscovies there is no other duck that can easily be mistaken for Moscovies. The question then becomes where did the NAs get their ducks? Did they get local wild ducks and tame them or did they trade all the way to central america which is Now considered their native range? I would bet that the ducks were already local natives at that point. We well know the effect that firearms can have on the range of native species. The Muscovy duck is easy to shoot and does not migrate like other ducks. So if you wipe out the local population they are now non-native species? This is all pretty much moot at this point because the Feds plan To regulate the ownership of muscovies as if they were a native species like the woodduck. They may require that they be rendered flightless if they allow you to raise them under a permit system as a domestic duck.
