Signs of about to lay the first egg?

I am also waiting.....patiently.....starting to get impatient....lol I have 2 black australorps. They are the same age (I am guessing around 18 weeks) Apple's waddles and comb are bright red, and Rocky's aren't. I am hoping for an egg soon. My brahma, Omelet, is about the same age too. I don't expect one from her for a long time though.

OMG OMG OMG.... I have an Omelet, too! She's a BA and one of my favorites (we have Brahmas also - avatar pic.) I have a recording of her practicing her egg song in the garage under the truck sitting next to me. It's soooo funny!! She also practiced her nesting skills in shop towels in a corner of the garage for a few days, too. Silly girl.

Our babies started laying at 17 weeks and we're pretty sure not all 16 of them have started yet or we'd have even more eggs. We have 25 total girls and 4 breeds.

If you free range like we do, check their favorite spots to hang out and dust and the path to and from your coop or run and look for eggs on the ground. Our first one was found on the floor of the coop right in front of the door and we've found many in the yard on the ground and not in any particular places either. Brown eggs are easy to spot in green grass thankfully. I had 3 on the coop floor this morning in front of their back door. Not sure what the deal was there, but was happy to see them. :)

Good luck everyone. It'll happen when you least expect it. That's what ours did and it's caused a chain reaction.
