I have a 5 month old Khaki Campbell that has been “accepting” a drake for probably 6 weeks now. I’m wondering if she could be laying somewhere in the woods since I haven’t seen anything in the coop yet. Is there an egg song or any other telling sign with ducks if they are laying yet? I’ve kept them in the coop longer in the mornings a few times this week and nothing. I know the signs for chickens being close or newly laying but not sure on ducks. She is free range and my run isn’t big enough to contain my birds for the day.

She may have a hiding place in the woods. When my Muscovy were young they would go under my dh work shed, under the ramp going into their coop etc and I ended up having to fence off every space they could get under. {They are sneaky things when it comes to nest and laying]

Does it take them long to lay their egg? My chickens seem to take some time so it’s easy to catch them laying. I’ve been trying to watch my ducks throughout the day to see where they are and they don’t bed much. They are on the move most of the day. And where I do see them bedded, I don’t see a nest. Maybe they pop it out quick and keep moving?? Lol

They can pop them out and move right along it seems as I have found mine all over in the duck pen at random places. They do not need a nest or special place for sure. My older hen seems to have to sit a while to get hers out but the younger ones can drop and go, lol.
