Silence Is Not Golden Here

Still want Sultans...

Maybe next year. Silkies, Sultans, maybe... maybe some Sumatras...

To go with my Sebrights and Seramas. More Seramas, in the hopes of getting some females. Heh. Somehow, most of the birds that I like start with S.

At least I didn't go for the Silver Ameraucanas.
You'll love Sultans. I am a huge Plymouth Rock fan and my Sultans are starting to get the better of me :lau. They are very friendly even if you don't handle them a lot :)

So far, my favorites are the Seramas. They're tiny, but bold. Even the littlest ones fly up to sit on my hands and arms - I don't allow shoulder-perching, though they try, and gloat when both of my hands are too busy to remove them - while I'm out working on the property. The EE's are coming around, the Sebrights are suspicious of their own shadows. The Cochin mixes are fairly bold, but not even two weeks old yet.

Do you have standard or bantam?
As far as I know, I have standards. I got them from My Pet Chicken. They are listed under Heritage and not the bantams. Unfortunately one has a cross beak that I've been working on - she seems to be holding her own. She's starting to become smaller than her sisters but she appears to be eating ok with a deep bowl and crumbles and she seems to be drinking ok. I do supplement some vitamins in the evening. Now...I did pay for hens...which I realize is no guarantee....and as of this morning I keep hearing what sounds like a cat having a hairball....but none of my cats are having hair balls...so I'm starting to wonder if one of the Sultan hens is a roo. I haven't caught who's doing it. It's just a quick gag/whistle noise. Hard to describe. My prior roo chicks sounded like rusty can being opened...this is different.

I have never had Seramas, but they look real friendly. I wish my bantams would perch on me, but the birds that tend to like to perch on me are my Assil Roosters. They will actually fall asleep on my arm. My Sebrights are extremely suspicious and protective against me

I had to smile at this. I have, what I think is an OEG bantam/serama...she's micro mini but huge personality. Like yours, she likes to jump on me and ride around. It does become a pain when I'm bent over cleaning out the chicken house and she's on my back or my head. :lau

My Sebrights 'talk', constantly. They're never far away from me, but they don't want to be touched. They mutter, cluck, grumble, chatter and carry on incessantly. The Seramas... when I'm sitting out watching the birds, the littlest ones are almost always underneath the chair, the larger ones roam further, but they come back to hop up on my legs and take naps.

Ok, so it's not just me...I have two Sebrights as well and they are both psycho. The roos were actually slightly aggressive...they went to a farm.
Then again, I also have two psychotic bantam EE's....so maybe it's the owner? :lau
(Kiki hush! ;))

My Sebright cockerel was actually pretty nice, except that he attacked any chick he could. He was also starting to get very 'roo-ish' feathering.... which is part of why he went to live at a bachelor pad to be a pet, along with my Silkie (Who, yes... did turn out to be a boy...). I figured since they were raised together, better for them to go to a new place together where they'd have a familiar bird around while they got used to it. I originally was going to keep the Sebright cockerel to breed to my two Sebright pullets, but since Sebrights are supposed to be hen-feathered... he wasn't turning out to be a good example of the breed. So instead I'll see how Sebright/Serama crosses turn out, once they're old enough... and assuming any of my Serama boys can actually catch them. They're speedy!

Hey guys, do any of you guys by any chance show or breed white birds? My Sultans are a atrociously dirty. How old do they have to be before I can wash them?

BTW, I hope you all had a great day yesterday and are having a splendid weekend! :)
Thanks! I show white Cochins. You can wash your birds as 1 month.

I don't even like eggs, yet I'm admittedly curious what color the three I have will lay. I do like blowing out eggs and cleaning them to make ornaments from, and they seem particularly well suited to that. Briefly toyed with the idea of carving emu eggs... concluded that I am not artistic enough for that.

I've thought about trying to blow out some of mine so I could use the shells decoratively. Is it difficult?
