Silence Is Not Golden Here

It's always the one you like best....

On top of all the other problems this year, I got home today to find that somehow the EE/Cochin mix chick had wedged herself into a spot that she should not have been able to get to. I had to move the entire chick pen to get her out. She's alive... but she can't walk. Was very weakly chirping when I found her, got her inside, got electrolytes and water into her, and gave her a cool dark place to recuperate. Did a bit of an Epsom warm water soak. She's eating and drinking, but she'll only walk on her hocks. I can't feel anything wrong with her legs, but there is extensive bruising on the right hock - the leg that she won't walk on. Yet it's not swollen. I'm hoping bruising is all that it is, and she'll be okay tomorrow, but if she can't walk I'll have to cull her. No idea how long she was there - and I still can't figure out how she GOT back there.

Neither chick will eat or drink on its own. Both have been syringe fed 1.5 mL of water and .5 mL of NutriDrench.
The newest chick still can't stand. Not sure if I should just put it down. I leave on Saturday and my family doesn't have the time to baby a chick that can't stand.

Chick with the injured leg is still not using it much. But she's hopping on the other leg, and using it a little, which is an improvement. I'm thinking she sprained it. She's eating and drinking on her own, and getting around a little, so she's isolated inside the chick pen where she can still see and be seen by the rest.
