Silence Is Not Golden Here

Didn't like the look of the more recent pip. Decided to pull the egg and check it... very quiet, weak noises inside. Flaked back a little shell, and the chick had cracked the shell, but hadn't managed to break through the membrane inside. So I opened it a little hole, and the peeping immediately got stronger. Put it back in to finish on its own.

Good job on following your instincts. Sounds like the chick needed a little extra oxygen.

Given that lack of breaking through the membrane, I decided to check the remaining 'possible' eggs. I was pretty sure I had three in there that had died. I was right on two of them - the other two that hadn't pipped yet both had peeping inside, very quiet. One had tried to pip, but only had a very small spot chipped. I put a safety hole in each of them, and the cheeping got stronger. Back in the incubator. So... I hoped that at the absolute maximum, I might get five chicks, after the AC problems. I expected to get none. Now I've got two hatched, and four more working on it. Just hope they're all healthy.

I was remembering the discussion about altitude and oxygen level effecting egg porosity and chicks ability to hatch with decreased oxygen flow into the egg. These eggs came from PA on the East Coast at very low altitude to the high desert on the West coast at almost 5k feet... I'm thinking that may have an influence.

Weed whacking. Unloading trailer of some amazing wood I got. Going on a run for water. If I have time, transferring the water to my at home tote, then going to work.

What about you @Cyprus?
I've got some work to do, cleaning, and need to secure my run because we have a persistent fox that is very successful.

RIR. I think they have some pretty fluffy butts, but my aunt had some that were just awful. The worst thing they did was eat the wing off of one of her Light Brahmas, and she wasn't even injured to begin with.

Wow
I have 4 rir
One of them is called cry baby she's always like girl they did this and then this happened an let me tell you about this :)
