Silence Is Not Golden Here

Hey all, I've been absent today and skipped about 40+ pages of post because I've had a full body migraine since last night.

Well... and probably trying to hatch some. I still want to make an EE/Serama cross.... Hey, I've got the Cochin/EE cross chick... maybe someday an EE/Cochin/Serama cross.... Fluffy legs, a fluffy face, and a serama strutt?
I hatched some Cochin/Dominique crosses. They are Black Sex links, so the males are barred and the females are black.

Here are the 4 girls with their sire.

This guy's mama was a Dominique/RIR.

I think this guy's mother was a Dominique/Buff

Same for this guy.

I don't have any pictures of the Cochin/Dominique cockerel's whose mothers weren't crosses.

Update: I am SOOO proud of the job this Momma is doing. Every time I come near she gets close to baby and puffs up. I'm just so in love. Can you tell I'm in full on chicken mode today? I had a bantam Cochin hatch two chicks for my neighbor once but they took them away from Momma and to their house to a brooder the day after they hatched so I missed all of this process. This is my first ever chick to have hatched FOR MYSELF! Oh and it's an olive egger- at least an F2 bc it came from an olive egg! I have been trying to get an olive egger since I started my flock last year. I do hope this baby is a pullet!

That's so neat. My child wants one of these pigs so bad. She's got at least a dozen kune kune pics saved to her Pinterest board- the little nerd she is. I'll have to show her your baby and tell her about them. She likes the spotted ones.
I love the orange ones with black spots! Whipple is dark brown as an adult and Cookie is white with black spots and kinda orange legs. They both have very different personalities and they even like different foods and beverages. Whipple LOVES beer. Like, crazy loves beer. She gets one as a treat every now and then. Cookie prefers milk. I guess Whipple is a drunk :)

So one of my Cuckoo Marans has been off and on laying this type of egg. It is always super rough textured also. Does this mean there is something wrong reproductively? FWIW none of her eggs have seemed to develop under our broody or in my little experimental incubator. She’s a psycho bird who loves to get herself stuck in places and be a fake broody so her name is Defective. :gigView attachment 1455496 View attachment 1455497 View attachment 1455498 View attachment 1455500

My fbcm lays eggs with that heavy calcium coating quite often too. I've never considered the fact that something could be wrong, I just thought it was something she did. I'm not very knowledgeable on this but I'm curios now.

I'm super curious what type chickens you all keep and do you breed/ hatch your own. Just for eggs, meat, do you sell, show, etc... I've got a small (well started that way - I'd say it turned into a healthy medium size thanks to chicken math) mixed backyard flock just for eggs and fun. They have quickly become my absolute favorite hobby. And everyday I have to talk myself out of getting a rooster. :rant

Started with 7 chicks last year, after saying "never again" for all these decades.
5 made it through the year and I added 5 more this April. Decided I needed a roo in May.
Now there are 11.
Mixed flock: 2 buffs, 3 Barred Rocks, 5 EE, one white Banty
All are for soil amendment, bug control, amusement and eggs. In that order.
