Silence Is Not Golden Here

On a completely different note, I gave in to temptation last night.

I peeked in some of my little blue eggs. I only looked at three... but of those three, one had what could be veins starting, one had a very clear spiderweb, and the third... was the cracked egg. Impact crater, with cracks radiating out from it. It wasn't leaking, so I taped it all up and put it in with the rest.

It has a beautiful, clear spiderweb of veins inside.

That's great! Do you know what kind of chicken they are?

Yep. I ordered twelve Lavender Ameraucana Bantam eggs from a person contacted through the Ameraucana Breeder's Directory. She sent me thirty, instead!
Holy Meatloaf! That is great! I also am a big fan of Bantam Ameraucanas. I know a breeder who has Chocolate ones. I wish I could order through a breeder directory, but they are almost all in the US

This person was breeding Chocolate bantams as well, but decided to concentrate on the Lavenders rather than work on two at once, and sold their Chocolate stock to someone who wanted to concentrate on them specifically to my understanding. The chocolates are pretty amazing, as well. For the climate here, I'm really leaning toward the lavender being the perfect color - light enough to reflect heat off their feathers, dark enough to soak up some warmth in them during the winter.

Great choice

Some of the eggs that were sent are older - The breeder mentioned that right off, that they were as much as a couple weeks old. So we'll see how they are for viability. I think that's part of why she sent me so many - to see how well they're holding viability. She did something I haven't seen with any other eggs I ordered.. which, realistically, is just two batches of Serama eggs. She bubble-wrapped them individually, had them inside one box laying down - not in cartons, not upright - with layers of bubble wrap, and aluminum foil lining the box. Then that box inside a larger box, with bubble wrap padding on all sides.

A few of the air pockets are a bit saddled, but to my surprise, not very many. And none were completely broken loose.
