Silence Is Not Golden Here

Well, I decided to take a gamble last night in favor of mental health. The injured muttly chick - my EE/Cochin mix - has been extremely upset about being in solitary confinement inside the chick pen, and throwing a fit every night when the rest went into the coop... so I decided to give her a chance, let her out to prove she could get into the coop. It's day six since she hurt herself.

Well... won that gamble. She made it into the coop on her own, so she got to spend the night with the rest, and has been loose with the flock all day today. Keeping up with the rest of the chicks is the best therapy for her, clearly. She gets tired, takes breaks a lot, but her control of the injured leg and her use of it has more than doubled from yesterday. I've also got a vet-wrap support on it, which she doesn't like... but it helps support the sprained hock. Oddly, she's never had swelling around the injury. Looks like she's on the path to recovery, and so... so much happier out running around with the rest of the chicks. When I'm out there, she comes over to take a break crashed out by my feet, where she knows she'll be protected from any harassment by the Elders... and my Serama cockerel is protecting her. He gets between her and the older girls, when she needs a break. I'm increasingly pleased with my choice of which one to keep.
