Silk Goat? Can A Chicken Person Help?

I had a little buck that was anemic, he was so weak and emaciated he could hardly get around. The person I got him from had alot of goats and other animals and wormed with safeguard monthly. There is a big problem in the goat world with resistant worms. From some research i found out that safeguard is simply no longer effective in some areas because of this resistance. I wormed mine with ivermectin horse paste, is that what you used? You have to do it once then repeat ten days later too. Worming DOES damage the gut flora in goats. Yogurt is good, but I use the probiotic paste used for newborn goats. Goats get the gut flora by nursing and from eating their mothers pellets, so there is more they need than what is in yogurt. I also treat the iron deficiency with redcell, the iron suppliment sold for horses, and with nutridrench for goats. I also learned that grain isnt good for goats. As ruminents you are feeding the bacteria in the goats gut, and they feed the goat. Grain isnt the best thing for that. I know you are trying to put weight on her, but I would offer REALLY good hay, with tons of clover, good coarse hay. Alfalfa is great too. Browse is better for them than pasture. I cut and gave mine piles of maple branches every day, sometimes pine, which is a natural wormer, plantain, dandylion, and as much red clover as they can eat. White clover is poisionous to tham, as is cherry, and oak. I would cut back on the grain.
I have the dosages and drenching schedule written down if you want it.
I dont think this in non traditional but the vets around here would never have suggested any of it, unless they are a goat vet they tend to treat them like other livestock, and they are not. My vet was horrified that I used Ivermectin horse past on my goats, but the sister to mine that he was caring for died, and mine thrived... As far as the other treatments I read about that on a goat forum. Very experienced goat people there, just like here, I would look into that too.
I hope this helped, good luck with her.
