Hello BYC folks!
Okay so I have 5 six week old silkie chicks, and a fully grown silkie hen. I am trying to introduce them to each other. When I showed Evie, my silkie hen, the chicks she puffed up and began clucking like she was broody. She also tried to peck them.
This morning, I watched a video of a mother silkie and her chicks. Evie puffed up the same exact way the hen in the video did. She also clucked the same.
Do yal think that she is having maternal instincts to sit on the chicks? Maybe she tried to peck the babies because she wanted them to go under her??
If yal have any suggestions or ideas, please say! Thanks to yal in advance!

Maybe put the chicks in a small crate outside for 15 mins and watch how she behaves around them, if she sits down beside the crate then you could try giving them to her.

Update:
I put the chicks in a dog crate next to her run. Evie did the same thing as before; puffing up and clucking like she's broody. She didn't lay down nest to them, though. what to yal think is up with her??
