silkie blue/black /splash question

Look at that pic again, that looks like a three with a little ink bleed. Sorry, doesn't answer the question but I had to say it.

Your chick could be buff. I have some of my very light ones look like that when the hatch. It could also turn out white. I see you have a mixed flock so the color could turn out to be most anything including a combination of colors. You do not have anything in your group that would make Splash, however. Spalsh will come from two Blues or from Blue and Splash or Splash and Splash.

your right, it does look like a 3 in the picture but it did look like an "s" when it first hatched.
and jimnjay, I have a splash but I don't know if it's a male or female.
if it's a male (that's the mystery bird because we thought it was a hen and now not sure what sex it is) splash to blue= splash
this splash bird we though had laid one of the eggs and marked it so, now thinking she is a he (small comb forming)

the chick is now all white except the wing tips which are black ?barred?.
definately black with a random pattern on the wing tips.
the splash in question turned out to be a hen.

I had one hatch that had the black marking on the back of head and neck except mine looked like a capital I it feathered in as a Buff

this does not photograph well but I have noticed that pattern is gettng darker so in a week or so, I will try to photograph again and see if it shows up.

with the marks on the wings I'm going to guess partridge --there was a just simular question on another thread . As I recall those marks are probably penciling and that would be partridge . My splashes all hatch out like a lav. color - then light colored crests as they develop they start to have pin feathers comming in dark here and there - I think I have a pic of some

I don't have any recent pics maybe tomorrow I'll take a couple to show how they start to develop . Not all splashes will be this color when they hatch it depends on their back ground breeding . I used to have some that hatched a grey yellow color and devoloped about the same way they would start to have dark feathers - they were really light almost white splashes - These I have now are blue based with dark blue splashes - I have a few about 3 weeks old and the light blue color you see on them now has dark blue places here and there . Hope this helps some ~~~ Tammy
