Silkie boy or girl?

I bought her from a farm, but the "chicken lady" was away and the farmhand was only 80% sure it was a female

Silkies are tough. One of the hardest (if not the very hardest) breeds to sex. There is no way to give 80% for it's gender, especially since they didn't vent sex the bird.

I'd say at best it's 50/50, though if I had to put money on one or the other, I would lean more towards boy because of the comb. However, I'd only be 55% on that, so don't give up on Kevin just yet!

Kevins comb looks the same as our older silkie, and that's definitely a she, the only differences between them are Kevin's dark tail feathers and darker wing feathers, and kevin has a pointier puffball where shilohs is round. Kevin doesn't have a wattle either, but I've heard some silkies don't get them

Bearded silkies shouldn't have wattles, or very little ones, but if they were bred from good quality parents, they shouldn't have any.

How old is Kevin?

His comb is smaller than my 12 week old boy, but bigger than my 12 week old girl.

Kevin is almost 11 weeks, and non- bearded, I'm not sure what quality the parents were but The farmhand did say they're not "show quality", something to do with the puffballs not being puffy enough and the buffs were too white underneath

See now that I know the age, I'm leaning more towards girl. Though deep red in the wings is a male characteristic. I have a buff rooster that has those colours. I don't think either gender are supposed to have anything but the buff colour.

Here is my man. He throws some really pretty chicks in there, so I will keep breeding him! Here are a few of his kids:

Here is his only son that I am able to tell so far. The rest are all too young. I definitely agree that Kevin is not SQ though.

Oh my, Steve is gorgeous! he looks like halfway between buff and partridge, but I haven't seen many buff roosters
There were a lot of different coloured silkie chicks at the farm, maybe Kevin's got a bit of another colour coming through. They had a lot of lavender and partridge roosters, most of the hens were white
