Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Tina, Doc is away for the weekend, maybe try calling him tonight. Will look for you in the meantime.
Hugs.:hugs
Usually fowlpox just needs to run its course. There isn't much you can do, except try topical antibiotic for the lesions.
I'll get back with you if I find anything worthwhile.

Thank you Roberta, Doc gave me his card and phone number at the Sussex show and I've managed to misplace it. Can you share it via PM or text to my cell?

Thanks also to DragonLady and Me & Jack for your advice. I appreciate your input.

Alright, I have finally gotten more pictures of my roo to ask if ya'll think he is blue or black. I had pics on here of him but I was told that it would be easier to tell if there were pics of the underfluff. I know that the underfluff for a blue would be blue looking and if he was black then the underfluff would be silvery looking. By what I saw it looked more silver but I'm not for sure. What do you think?

I know they aren't the greatest pics but that is all I could get and I know he looks a little brown or reddish but that is just the sun on him.

I swear after getting the pics on here they look even worse than they did on my phone. I didn't think they were THAT bad. I may just have to break out the camera. If you could diagnose his color from these I would appreciate opinions. Thanks.

I would consider both birds blue.

Oh boy, I'm filled with distress and frustration...this is the group of birds that we had shipped from out of state which got lost in transportation...by the time we located them, one was dead, the others were lethargic, dehydrated and suffering from heat...and one boy was barely alive, passing blood....he is the one we ended up tube feeding and now has neurological damage similar to cerebral palsy....in fact, he is the one that started with this whitish crust on his nostrils which I thought was dried nasal discharge...this is the second group of birds we purchased this year that have had significant problems (including death) due to unusual circumstances beyond our control...we have been providing ICU level of attention and care...it's become very fatiguing.
That is so sad! However, I am in admiration of the courage you have. It will get better soon and you will finally enjoy your little guys

HI im new to this and got given these two lovely girls just woundering what breed they are

Welcome to BYC! It is very hard to tell based on your pictures. You might want to try posting on another thread in BYC as we Silkie folks might not be the best able to advise you. I believe there is an area on the forum under chicken breeds specific to your question ("What breed or gender is this") which would likely be the perfect place to ask your question.

Good luck! And once again .....

Had a good weekend with 2 of our girls in Frederick MD. Our blue girl Princess Fluffy went BV and our splash girl Hope went RV. Both girls are only 5mo and sure have started their show careers with a nice first weekend out.

Can anybody help me with a few Showgirls I am interested in purchasing? I made a thread in this section with photos and I need some advice/opinions before I go through with the purchase. Thank you!

All these birds are beautiful! Of course, I haven't looked through all of them. I just hatched a Blue Silkie Bantam 2 days ago. When s/he gets older, what am I looking for quality wise?

Ok guys, I need some major help. As much as I hate to admit it and I am quite embarrassed to even ask....my flock has mites, what now? I am over asking myself how this could have happened, I am so careful, but now we gotta get rid of them. They were all in the barn for Hurricane Sandy, so now basically they all have them, some less severe than others. I completely stripped out the barn, bleached the slab along with all of the fencing, carriers, and anything that they may have come into contact with, including my coop boots. They were all powdered on Friday. They are in the crests as well, how do I treat the crest. I am ok with an aggressive method of treatment, what is the fastest and most effective way to kill em dead? Is it possible to have mites and lice?

If I am treating them with the powder, how long until it kills them? I looked them over today, and the little red critters, were still alive and well.

I am so frustrated, I have been sick for the past few weeks, and now this. It took every bit of energy I had to strip the barn. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, and I know I am not alone because I have my "silkies peeps". :)
