This looks like a girl. I would use VetRX on it, as it is likely some kind of infection and not simply dry skin. VetRX is safe on the face and near the eyes, you can rub right over the top of the eye lids, too. A bath in flea and tick puppy shampoo would be a great idea, too.
Poulettes...
f you use a black male showing red or gold leakage on yourBBS you WILL get red/gold leakage on the necks and wing bows of your BBS. Use him on blacks ,FOR blacks, and you will get good females, and some males showing leakage.
Sorry gang. I have bronchitis as a result of the flu, and my typing is really suffering.I can't wait to really breathe again.
Agreed! You will never get that gold leakage out! You can only use black X black and get mostly clean girls and the boys will likely carry the leakage. Eventually you would want to cull and get away from ANY bird having leaking in your blacks. I bought my blacks out of a line of clean blacks I got from Birds of Paradise (President of ASBC)-- but you'll find that in a lot of other lines the males will carry gold leakage. Definitely not to be used over blues or splash.
DragonLady-- sorry you are sick, I've been out for a good couple of weeks with flu and bronchitis. I'm still dizzy and not feeling well. I can't believe how long it's hanging on. I don't know if i ever told you, but the last two shows we went to-- the Nationals and a local Special meet for the ASBC club I used the Downy in the rinse on all of my birds and I am VERY pleased with how their feathers turned out. Shows start back up in a couple of months, so that's going to be my go-to! Love how they smell, too.
Speaking of red....Is there anyone on this thread that has some good quality Red Silkies? I would love to work with them as a side project. But I can't seem to find anyone that has any or sells eggs/chicks. There isn't a thread for them on here either. So forgive me for asking on here. I just know you folks have the knowlegde and the birds to teach me how to better my flock and I thought I would ask.
Thanks for any leads.
Bobbie Porto has a few reds. They are not breeding true as far as I know, it's a total fluke. But I know there are a few other people playing around with that color trying to work on it. As far as I know, they are working/trading together and are not selling their birds/eggs right now. Anyway, I don't know if you could talk Porto out of a red or not, but that would be a place to start asking.
Hi, I had something similar once. I was worried about favus (fungus), so I bought vaginal cream for yeast infections. I washed the bird and applied VetRx several times after the bath. I never needed to use the Antifungal cream, but now have it in my chicken first aid kit.
X2. That was great advice! VetRX is a GREAT product and can be rubbed on the legs and face. I would be really worried about favus too!
