Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Two recent chicks - couple of week old now - keeping both to grow out. Hoping the Showgirl is a pullet

I love your show girl with her bow tie. Precious!

Thank you - that is what I was thinking as well for age. Now I just have to figure how I am shipping - under "adult" or chick. I would love talk to someone who does it like that.

I shipped some 7 week old chicks a couple of weeks ago. When I called for my bird shipping permit they asked what type of bird. I said chickens. They asked how many. I said four. That was it as far as the bird questions went. It's very stressful on me to ship. I can't imagine shipping them young than 6 weeks but I know it's done all the time.

do u have to have a permit to ship? cauze ive shipped through express before without one...
Yes, in California you need a permit.
Great, thank you!
What would you write about the feathers when looking at a silkie?
Some chicks have great feathering. Some seem lacking in places so I like to know if that lack changes as they grow up as it will be a determining factor on whether or not I would use them for breeding. This black pullet for instance was a pitiful looking chick and her babies for the most part are the same way. But wow! she pulled out of it!

Thanks again!

What kind of information do you all make note of during incubation and how often do you candle? I'm considering using the weighing process for our next batch, in order to accurately control the humidity needed for a good hatch rate.

Im not having good luck with hatches and want to figure out what's wrong and what's right...

No one tracks any kind of incubation or hatching information?
