Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

^ You COULD POSSIBLY get splash from mixing blue and white, but that very much depends on what the white is hiding. If the white carries blue, you could get splash. If it carries partridge, you could get partridge. Or, another monkey wrench, if the blue just so happens to carry white, you'll get white.
There really is no sure answer to the "what will I get if I mix white with such and such" question. You just have to do it and see what comes of it.

Being a part of this thread made me want to take pictures of my silkies for inspection.. I decided to take pictures of my chicks too... and doing so prompted closer inspection of them by me and out of 4 chickens 3 of them of MUTTS! GRR! Contacted the seller. I had previously realized on was mixed but looking closer I realized its 3. She is offering to give me replacements, and hopefully will take the 3 back rather than me have to try to find them homes!

I had something similar happen, but it was hatching eggs. The eggs were from an auto sexing breed and they came out all the wrong colors. Oops! The sellers were very apologetic and will replace the eggs at no cost.

This seller reacted the same... but apparantly she lets her chickens run together to get sizzles? I will trade them out when she has a new hatch and pay CLOSE attention to the new birds, then not to business with her again. She is apologetic but its no wonder I got mixes, and she obviously didn't look close enough (buyer beware I guess)..

Alright its that time again. JUDGE MY CHICKENS! I have a pair and want to know how they line up to show quality.

In my case the eggs were from pullets pulled from a grow out pen with several breeds in it, two weeks prior to selecting their eggs for hatching. Obviously they should have waited a bit longer. It was an honest mistake and I am happy to do business with this lady again.

I'm no judge, but I would show them and get a professional's opinion. They definitely look show quality to me. The difference between first and third is all in who has brought what.

I know this is way late but you will get splash silkies that way! I soo want splash silkies! You will also get whites!
If you want splash silkies you will need offspring from a blue x blue, blue x splash or splash x splash.

blue x blue = 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash
blue x splash = 50% blue, 50% splash
splash x splash = 50% splash

Pure splash breedings over time tend to wash out the "splashing".

As for breeding to white, white is a wild card. The white gene is an off switch preventing colors and patterns from showing. That means a white could carry just about anything genetically and there is no way to be sure what color the resulting offspring will be.

thanks! I was mostly just curious because I'm a need to know kind of person. But i really have no plans on breeding and can't keep roosters (unless they are quiet) i still don't know what their sexes are either. :)

Would you call the girl in the back splash? I thought she was a blue, but now i think i see darker splashes on her
