Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Well.. gotta say im a little nervous cause i just recently started to fall madly inlove with my silks... but here are mine! I have another one.. but she is behind the roo. Also incase you can't tell.. the one you can see is his favorite hen..

I wouldn't even worry about split wing at this point, they're really too young to judge on anything other than the correct number of toes. When they've got a good number of months behind them (like when they finish all of their juvenile molts), spread their wings and then have a look. Until then, they'll likely just look split because they haven't grown those feathers in yet :)

Thank you that's a relief! I'll try hard to ignore it for now..

Hello we are new to silkies! I am hoping to get some basic info on what colors to pair together in our breeding pens? I know BBS (Blue, Black, Splash) my question there is we have a Splash Roo and a Blue Roo, how many Roos per pen and does it matter what color Roo you have in your BBS pen?

I never imagined chickens would be so complicated!!

Also we have a partridge pair that I am concerned the Roo is very handsome but is his coloring off? My understanding of what I have read is he may still produce SQ chicks? HELPPPPP!!!!!!!!

This pair is 9 months old: (His wings are typically more tucked than this he was attempting to show the others he was dominant)

We also have a blue Roo and a Black Hen about the same age wouldn't mind feedback:

This is one of my 8 week olds. She is feathering half silkie half smooth. Her mother is a smooth chocolate silkie and her father is a black silkie roo. Her grandparents are a silkied roo and a smooth hen. I'm not sure past that, but that what the breeder told me. Anyway so far she is the first born half/ and half. If she is a boy she is split to chocolate.

Where are you seeing Silkie feathers? She just looks like a normal smooth to me :)

Yes her feet, cushion, and tail are silkied. It's weird it's almost like the smooth feathers are solid until the edges, making them not smooth. I don't know how to explain it. I breed Cochins also, and at this age they have super smooth feathering everywhere. She has a few feathers around the base of her tail that are smooth like a little crown. She comes from very nice breeding. You can sort of see it in this picture, her tail is a pompom on the inside lol. She's a weirdo.

She is a mix. I bought some "silkies" from a local seller and they feathered out like this... I think they were mixed with polish, is what she said after I wrote her to tell her there were in fact not pure silkies!
