Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

We hatched these guys out from a local breeder who had a couple SQ silkies in the parent stock. What do you guys think?

Yes he is columbian- you would have to cross him with a paint to get some paints in the offspring. Not all the offspring will be paints.

Yes, I have 6 eggs from this pairing due to hatch Friday, we will see if i get any paint chicks! :)

So i have a chick with allnyellow down, no black patches of feathers, but the skin is marbled with black and then pink patches. Is this a white paint?

I don't know much about paints, but my understanding is that they hatch with their spots. Pigment holes on the skin are common, and undesirable, in Silkies.

But, again, I don't know much about paints. There is a paint Silkie thread, perhaps you could ask the breeders there?

Maybe, but not all paints have spotty skin pigment and not all silkie chicks with spotty pigment will be paints. Some paints are born with spots but generally will get more, Some paints, like the one below, are born without spots. I hatched a little paint girl this summer. She was born whitish- a little bit of grayish yellow shading but no clear black spots. She had solid black pigment on skin. from the beginning. She grew into her spots gradually and she was about 4-5 weeks old before I was sure she was a paint. She is 6 months old now and has a good deal more spots but I don't have a recent picture. Incidentally, I had a black chick in that hatch that had just a little spotty light pigment on her legs and toes but it filled in and she was all black by the time she was 6 weeks old. I guess you''ll have to wait and see. Her'es hoping!

Hey everyone! I was wondering if there are any good breeders in PA where I could find a couple silkie chicks. I had some shipped eggs but the only two to develope died during lockdown. I'm only looking for a couple nice, poofy silkies for my kids.
