Yeah, I bought it at work today. It didn't turn her feathers to mush haha. She actually looks good.

Here's before:

After:

Says the more you use it the better it works, so maybe it will get rid of the yellowing

I will have to see, and let everyone know if it works!
I looked at the link for this shampoo-- it looks like it's an incredible deal-- CHEAP!! Gosh, I buy dog shampoo's for around $14! From the before and after picture, I'd say this stuff works GREAT! Good find on that shampoo! I may buy this stuff. It looks like it is not blueing, which can cause problems. I have some very slight yellowing from sunburn on the birds I'm taking to Nationals. I bought some shampoo today that I'm going to test out on the birds I'm not going to take. (just in case it messes them up!) I bought "Sho Sno Whitener Shampoo". It says no bleach, no harsh chemicals. Says it removes gray, yellow and green stains. It's a deep purple colors and says you are supposed to leave it on for 2 minutes. I sure hope it works well!

And before I get bashed for not keeping my pens perfectly clean and spotless-- my silkies are on sand and they are outside. It's not dirty, but it is what it is for having an outdoor covered pen.

ChicksNherps-- I think there is a significant improvement in your color. If my shampoo doesn't work, I might just go buy a bottle of what you got! Thanks for posting that!

This is what I bought today: http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail....5&ccd=IGO043&gclid=CI3148aBxbICFROnPAodnAQA3g except that I only paid $7 instead of $8.

I was looking for reviews for this Sho Sno I bought and found this about someone using it on cats:
"...it does NOT take out the natural colours of the coat. It's not bleach! No shampoos for cats will do that. It WILL remove tear staining, yellowing, etc.

I use Sho Sno on all my cats - a Seal Mink Tortie and White RagaMuffin, a Black and White Persian and a Red Classic Tabby and White Exotic Shorthair. Love this shampoo because it's VERY low sudsing and so easy to get out of even the longest, thickest coats. Also use a 1/3 cup white vinegar in the final rinse to break down any remaining soap residue and when you think you're done rinsing, rinse another few minutes."

Yeah I bought it because of my little "creamsicle", I didn't want to use bluing on her. I have a bluing shampoo as well with the sparkles in it. Just be careful with the deep colored shampoos, if you put it directly on and don't suds it completely and leave some of the color concentrated in one spot too long it can stain

I also keep my girls clean, I think it is the food so I changed up what I feed them.

I'm going to give this stuff I bought a shot and see. Obviously, going to try it out on a bird that won't matter if they get turned purple. But I'd rather this work! The deep purple color of the shampoo does make me a bit nervous, though!

May I ask what you have switched to and whether you find it helpful?

It's #843.. I went back to read it too. What is your grain mix you are using? You said you are mixing the millet and flaxseed into grain? I know what I call "grain"-- I feed it to my horses and it is mostly corn and milo. Just curious! :)
They get layer pellets. That's what I meant. I give them about 1 tablespoons of pellets, mixed with 2 tablespoons of manna pro conditioner pellets (recommended feeding), a teaspoon of flax, a teaspoon of millet, and topped with fresh organic wheat grass. I also have scratch, but I don't give them a lot. just as a treat to train them. I also give them a pinch of oyster shell mixed with their food.

Goodness, all this talk about sun bleaching of feathers and what's "proper" coop materials, make me think I'm glad my silkie is already a yellow colored buff or partridge (breeder called it partirdge, but it looks more buff to me) so my bird can enjoy the sunshine and not worry about the feathers changing colors.

However it does make me a little bit concerned about my gray and porcelain d'uccles - but that's for another thread.
