Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Repeat posting is getting annoying.

Sorry bout ya groundpecker!! I was trying to get it to work. Thought this forum was about helping??! I am new to the site so I don't know much about it! Just trying to get the feel on how to do stuff on the site so I can learn more about chickens and showing and other things that I enjoy or want to learn. I figured the chicken world was all about help(but I guess there is always that one soar thumb hahaha). SO SO SORRY to annoy you just trying to learn.....

Ugh...hate those kinds of toes. If it's just the nail itself...like a big fat toe with two nails nearly fused together then that's better than having a lobster claw, which is when the two nails are separated and there are unique joints or phalanges or bones at the end of the toe.

I've tried breeding it out in the past and have found it popping up a lot in the first generation and maybe 20-30% of the time in the second. I gave up after that and don't breed with that trait anymore. But sometimes judges don't care, like Loralee said---a fused toe with two nails is better than 4 or 6 separate toes.
I think I am going to just pet him out. I don't want to put myself behind the ball by breeding him and being unhappy with the result because it showed up. I discovered today that I have a true black chick that is a little cockerel. He is only a few weeks old, but the wattles are there and they are a little red. I'm not hurting for boys at the moment...I have ALOT.

Any thoughts on the sex of this one by looking at the body type and stance. There aren't any wattles or comb....

Yes, I see it ! YAY!

I'm excited!! Do y'all mind of I post some of my silkies to see if they would be show breeder or pet quality?! I am new to the show world and love silkies:) I acquired these from a friend who had them just as pets and was just curious.

I will at least enjoy the pictures :) Sometimes the difference between show and breeder quality is hard to tell from pictures and even pet to breeder quality can be difficult if it is from something like a missing toe! Im sure you can get some general opinions though. Glad you got it figured out. Sometimes the process is a pain..

Are there any streamers ??? The stance looks sort of boyish but the comb isnt very developed. How old is it?? I have a pullet that had that look a few weeks ago ... so hard to tell..

One last try and if it doesn't work I'll just have to hold off for the laptop...

My boys usually have a higher tail by 4 months. Don't know the age of this one. I've got two at 4 months that I can't sex. It's tough!
