Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Finally we had a day with weather nice enough to take a few pics. I have been anxious to show you my little SG silkie and see what all of you think about her. She is about 4 months old..so she still has a little ways to go.

Don't have a clue what kinda pose you call this one. ;-)

OK....looking forward to your comments! Hoping to show her as a pullet in May

What you are smelling might be coccidiosis. It causes loose poops with blood sometimes. I'd put those birds on a round of Corid, and keep them well seperated from your other birds until they have been de-bugged , and wormed too.

Definitely not SQ feet and looks like he has scally legs.

I agree, I will give them a good bath, spray them and put them in corid for 5 days.

Thank you both, very much. I'll be watching over these birds very closely. One of the hens has a combination crooked and scissor beak, which I will have to trim.

Thank you everyone for the nice compliments on this little lady!

I love her. You have to name her either Madonna or Vogue! LOL
I named her Sniffles because she went through some cold and kept sniffling all the time.

I do think that she deserves a nicer name than Sniffles. I named my white pullet Marilyn Monroe and she's not as nice as this girl..

My next question is Ace's feet...his toenails to be exact.
Should I worry about trimming them? When I look closely, doesn't look like I can take much off. I can see the quick of the nail pretty close to the tip of the nail. I could always take an emery board and file the ends?

One thing I forgot to mention is that this particular group of birds, stinks to high heavens. I don't see any mucous or any other obvious problems but the smell troubles me a bit. We have been beefing up their immune system with mashed hard boiled eggs sprinkled with dry powder milk, ACV in the water weekly and Red Cell weekly. I'm off to spray them with Adams and then am heading to bed. Tomorrow they will get bathed and given a "once over".
How awful! Mine smell like sunshine. I hope it's not serious.... :(
I picked up this roo and now I am not sure if he is up to the standards and if I should keep him. What I am not sure of are his wings. From all the pictures I can find on what is correct his appear to be way off but I wanted to get another opinion. I am new and learning...should he stay or go?

Super cute! How are his feet? He looks very nice, his wings are low but roos will do that a lot. Try bringing him inside away from all girls and see if he lifts them up.
I agree. All my roos start with excellent wings but when maturity hits they drop down. As mentioned, try getting them alone in a strange environment which will some times cause them to come up. If his wing fan is good, I would at least try a test breeding. He's awfully nice.

Such pretty, clean feet! Nails look great to me. I shouldn't comment, since I don't show, but I would trim the sharp tips so he won't scratch the judge! :D

Filing a little bit each week will cause the quick to recede.

Hi, I've posted this on another site but thought I might get some help here also. Received a shipped silkie that came with these toes. One is bent almost 90 degrees and wont straighten out. The toe next to it has 2 nails coming out of the webbing. Almost doesn't look like a seperate toe at all. Could this be a birth defect or a broken toe or something? Oh and this batch of birds brought us the gift of mites....sigh Shoot that really sucks!! We have a Roo that has the similar issue with one side of his toes... It does not bother him... Did you get from a breeder or hatchery ??
