Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

yes...I knew it was a bit older than mine and yours has feathers that are shredded more than my purebred hens.

I did not raise the roo and hen. I did purchase the hen at the farm of a person that breeds and shows Silkies in separate pens. The pens cannot be entered by any other rooster. The roo is purebred but from a person I know that breeds Faverolles' but not for show.

so are you saying she keeps the hens and roo's seperate at the farm you got your hen from? Because I was going to say depending on how the babies turn out she may have come into contact with a silkie roo there before yours. They can stay fertile for close to a month. But Guess you'll have to see how it feathers out =D Because silkied feathers don't show on f1 generations.

No, I mean that she breeds her chickens and raises the chicks in pens containing a trio and some have only pairs. I purchased several of my hens from her and another lady that does the same. Those two ladies are friendsof each other from 2 different towns and one of them told me about the other.
I purchased my hens at 4-6 weeks of age and raised them myself. I purchased a trio of Faverolles as baby chicks..lets just say, I know the cross is between my purebred Faverolles roo and my purebred Silkie hens. No other options.

Thanks for all of this input! I very much appreciate this everyone's input so far!!!!

Just stopping by to say 'hi' -- been so long since I've been on BYC. Spending all my time on the FB groups. lol

Hope all is well.

Sharing a pic of Oscar, son of Phillipe. He's 7 months old -- and boy, oh, boy I can't wait to see him in another 7 months. He's so beautiful already. :)

Sexy man....feel free to send him my way;-)
