Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

He is one handsome boy. What a transformation - from mop to top!

His stance is so far back - he's got CHEST! My favorite picture is still the "which way is front" one...
Thanks

It will be interesting to see how he does in shows, since he has those tiny horns on the front of his comb.

He certainly is a handsome guy. I wish he had a little more tail to help balance out the chest, and he may just be a bit too chesty. But no perfect bird exists. I'd love to borrow him.

I need more chest in my birds.

have you seen his infamous "which end is which" photo?

looks pretty well balanced to me haha! He was still damp from his bath in these pics.

He is very chesty but I bet if you bred that to something with no chest, you'd have chest. Ace is jealous!

That's pretty funny.

If you want to grow really good foot feathers on your Silkies, keep them on kitty litter which you screen every day.All my show birds were kept up in 2 x 4' coops. They grew flippers !
I would, but kitty litter gets mushy when it gets wet

and I can't have him inside right now, he would wake us all up! I use sand in my coop, but with all the rain we had it got really muddy. It's drying out now i'm just trying to condition them again. I let them free range too and let them out every morning to walk in the dewie grass. I've heard it's good for the feathers. My sizzle has some pretty brittle feathers, I am thinking she has a double frizzle gene

so I bought it mostly for her to see if it helps strengthen her feathers, along with a good high protein diet. It seemed to work pretty well when I gave snow and ice baths yesterday, they were nice and soft. We'll see if it helps their feet any. I think I will soak their feet in it a couple times a week.
