Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

And ChickenMama...here is the partridge as of yesterday. She is really filling out and is almost looking too full in the breast so I have named her Dolly

She is looking a bit scraggly though. She is around fourteen weeks.

Pretty balanced girl ! Her feet are right under her middle.Nice wings too, with plenty of foot feathering.

You can send him over to my house any time!

Now that we're all asking questions, would you mind telling me more about my cockerel?
Here he was 8 months old.

This was taken almost a month later right after a bath.

These are the best pictures I could find. He lacks feathering on his shanks and feet aren't the best around, but other than that, I think you get a good idea on what he looks like. The first picture, he's a little bit upright and spent a lot of time moving around like that when he was younger. Now that he's almost a year old, it seems like he has dropped down a little bit, if that makes any sense? lol
He really needs foot and leg feathering.Try putting him up on Kitty Litter. That reared upright stance comes out on e very short backed bird again. In the bottom photos his feet are in front of his balance point.I'd like to see more crest, and a darker comb.Love his color.

I just got my silkies my friend hatched for me .. my silkie chick (blue) has the biggest comb she has a vaulted skull and the other 2 is blue and then a black ... I guess vaulted skulls are harder to hatch my friend Justine told me they are because most of her silkie eggs didn't make it I think she said only 2 lived and there were 12 I had 7 of them and 3 of mine are good 3 made it to lock down but one died and then I brought 2 extra silkie chicks home 2 partridge silkies and they are pretty .... and I will get some stuff for rudys comb and eye soon ... I will get some pics tomorrow if im not to busy and of the chicks to put on her but I 2 of them have a live vaccine so I have to change my shirt every time I handle them because I like holding them close to get use to me so I need to wash my hands and change my shirt but they are cute and I don't mind doing it

Anything better here? Looks completely straight in this picture

This was just a few minutes ago. Wings and balance look better, but that's just what it looks like to me, I am not the expert that you guys are!

Draw a vertical line straight up from his feet and legs. You will see that there is not enough bird behind that line. That's why he throws his tail up, and his head back. He is trying to balance himself over his feet and legs. He is very fancy though ! Love the attitude. Just breed him to hens that are very low in front, with not too short backs.

ah okay, well Ice is nice and low so we'll see what we get from them =)

Quote: All animals move around and take different positions based upon what is going on in their environment. Rearing back to look up when you snapped your fingers is a good example. You'd actually have more of a problem (in my opinion) if your bird did not react to what s going on around him.
